In Korea we passed around a shared flame that sparked each of our torches, lighting smileing faces and upturned prayers. These balls of fire waveing in the breeze, reaching toward the mountain to consume all wishes and prayers and send the ashes to those in heaven.
Great shot... it seems that most other countires have beautiful traditions and cerimonies... why not us?

Ha, i had a really long conversation with one of the people there about that! We decided that because we have so many cultures mixed in one we all just forget everything other than the largest holidays of all. (like New Years, Christmas etc)
Thats sucha shame too because we could really learn alot from other cultures, watching that mountain so many people were crying from our group (including me) it was so amazing!
Thank you for the comment!

Merci mon ami! I agree, but sadly I had my camera set on low resolution so i wouldn't use all the memory space...I have hit myself in the head many times over with regret for that decission though...argh!

That is an excellent shot, both with meaning as well as great composition.
I think it is interesting the different way people think...
Without knowing an explanation, some might see it and have an instinctive reaction of fear or horror, knowing the damage fire does and the sort of connotation burning things inspire.
Your explanation of it, however, suddenly imbues it with the sort of beauty age-old tradition lends to everything it touches. And the image is heartwarming.
Good work!

Thank you! I completely agree though I hadn't seen it with that point of view before. I really appreciate your comment because it shows me that I did well, though I think that I was just lucky to experience that moment...it is really impossible to explain how powerful it was.
Thank you again

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
